Win a trip to Sri Lanka in the CIMA Global Business Challenge!

CIMA Global Business Challenge

The CIMA global business challenge is an international business competition designed to bring out the best in the young business leaders of tomorrow. This is a great opportunity for students around the world to showcase their talent in business management.

Based on a test of professional competence in management accounting (CIMA exam T4 part B) case study, participants must prepare and present relevant, well considered recommendations and solutions to a fictitious business scenario. Their skills and knowledge in all areas of business management will be put to the test.

Due to popular demand we have extended the registration deadline to 23 March, as a consequence we have also extended the report submission deadline to 16 April.

GBC participants from previous years strongly recommend taking part in the competition. With the current state of the job market it's vital that you have something to stand you apart from your peers and the Global Business Challenge is one way this can be achieved. Every team who submits a report will also receive an individual certificate of recognition.

Find out more about how the challenge works in the about GBC section.

Is it for me?

If you are a full time undergraduate doing your first degree, this is your chance to test your business skills and showcase your talent (see eligibility rules). Do you have what it takes to be a global champion?

Why?... read on….

Have you ever considered teaching as a career? If you have then we have some exciting news!

The government is keen to recruit high quality graduates into science teaching, in particular chemistry and maths. Tax free bursaries, up to £20,000, will now be awarded related to your science subject specialism and degree classification.

Why train to teach in the sciences?
At Sussex we are committed to producing teachers who can promote the study of Science beyond compulsory school age as a positive educational move and career path for all young people.

Worried that your degree profile doesn't fit?
Sussex University runs a range of subject knowledge enhancement courses in physics and chemistry (no fees and a bursary of £200 per week may also be payable) for those with science related degrees. To train to be a physics or chemistry teacher you do not necessarily need a physics or chemistry degree. If you possess an A level in either subject, and you are competent at maths, then enhancement courses from 6 months to one month are available for the right candidate. Come along and find out if you are eligible for teacher training and/or pre-teacher training enhancement.

This event is aimed at final year and postgraduate students in all science subjects (including Psychology).

Civil Service Internships for Ethnic Minorities and those from lower socio-economic groups

Two months that could change a student’s life

The Civil Service Fast Stream’s Summer Diversity Internship Programme (SDIP) - for which the deadline for applications is 16 January - is a finalist for the ‘Best Diversity’ Award in the National Placement & Internship Awards 2012.

SDIP is aimed at black and minority ethnic students and those from lower socio-economic groups, and is the only centrally coordinated opportunity of its kind in the Civil Service.  Applicants should  be in their penultimate or final year of university. (This can include postgraduate studies immediately following first degree.)

SDIP participants spend about two months in one of the major government departments, where they enjoy a unique insight into the work of the Service.  The experience they gain in this way is invaluable for those considering an application to the Fast Stream, the Civil Service graduate talent management programme.

A particularly attractive feature of SDIP is the opportunity for its participants to compete for a place on an intensive coaching programme, designed specifically to enhance their chances of success in the Fast Stream selection process.

Applications are made from the Fast Stream website - http://faststream.civilservice.gov.uk/Summer-Diversity-Internships/Home/. ;

The site also contains some feedback from the 2011 Programme, which received an overwhelming endorsement from its participants: 95 per cent said they would recommend SDIP to other students.
